Cincinnati is a city in Hamilton County, southwestern Ohio, United States, situated on the northern bank of the Ohio River opposite Covington and Newport, Kentucky. The city was founded in December 1788 by settlers including Mathias Denman, Israel Ludlow, and Colonel Robert Patterson, initially named Losantiville, and was renamed in 1790 to honor the Society of the Cincinnati, a fraternal organization of Revolutionary War officers. With a population of 314,915 as of July 2024, Cincinnati ranks as the third-most populous municipality in Ohio and anchors the Cincinnati–Northern Kentucky–Southern Indiana metropolitan area, home to over 2.3 million residents.
